Future Communications Architecture
Denial of Service (DoS) Resistant Internet Architecture
This project aims to set the future agenda of making the Internet architecture resistant to Denial of Service (DoS) attacks. We believe that a secure Internet Architecture can mitigate DoS attacks and other security threats without sacrificing future innovations.
The openness of the Internet today is both a factor of success and its main weakness. As more application and network vulnerabilities appear, we have to invent ways to prevent or at least mitigate these forms of abuse. Intrusion Detection Systems, Deep Packet Inspection, Personal Firewalls and Anti-Virus Software are essential defence mechanisms to keep the Internet alive. Unfortunately none of these tools will provide a definitive solution on its own. Deploying these mechanisms is generally complex, leading to increased operating and capital costs and requiring frequent updating to deal with new attacks.
This work is part of our contribution to CRN's Critical Infrastructure Protection working group.
